OVERVIEW

Palythoa polyps are very similar to Zoanthid polyps, but do not have the same range of colors as Zoanthids.

They are easy to care for corals that are good choices for beginner hobbyists.  Provided with moderate to fairly bright lighting and moderate water flow, they will usually do well in most reef tanks.

Palythoa will take small meaty foods if offered, but it is not necessary to feed them unless you want to accelerate their growth.

The polyps grow from a fibrous mat that expands to increase the size of the colony. They can become invasive and encroach on other corals and so their growth should be monitored and pruned if necessary.

Palythoa polyps also contain Palytoxin which can be quite toxic if gotten into the mouth.  Care should be taken to not directly handle the polyps or to wash your hands immediately after handling the polyps to be on the safe side.

Photo Notes We want you to be happy with the coral that you receive and we take pride in the corals that we offer.  To provide true representation of the color and health for our WYSIWYG corals, they are photographed and white balanced under the ReefCorner LED lighting at approximately a 10K to 14K white point to best show the actual color of the coral. The coloration may vary when viewed under different lighting.  The grid the coral is typically photographed on is approximately 0.6" per square to give you a size reference.
Naming Notes We identify the scientific name when we are able to with some degree of accuracy. You will notice that we don’t give our corals cool names like “AWESOME ULTRA SUPER METALLIC NEON RED AND SCREAMING LIME GREEN ULTRA ULTRA COLORED AUSSIE” unless it is a name in common usage in the hobby that helps to identify the coral. We let our pictures do the talking and you can be the judge of whether our corals are awesome or not.
