|Category: LPS (Large Polyp Stony)
Common Name: Acan Lords, Micro Lords
Scientific Name: Micromussa lordhowensis previously called Acanthastrea lordhowensis
Specimen Size: Frag approximately 1.25″ across with 6+ small polyps on 1.5″ disk
Origination: ECC aquacultured frag
Entry Updated: 3/1/2017
Commonly referred to as ‘Acans’ or ‘Acan Lords’, these corals form small mounds in the aquarium as the polyps multiply.
Science has recently reclassified these as Micromussa lordhowensis and sometimes now are referred to as Micro Lords, but most people still refer to them as Acan Lords.
Acans are excellent candidates for moderately lit reef aquaria or low to moderately lit areas of reef aquaria with bright lighting.
Acans come in many different color variations and often times will fluoresce with impressive displays of color under blue lights.
Acans do best and will grow quicker if they are target fed meaty foods such as small mysis shrimp or brine shrimp on occasion when their tentacles are extended at night, but feeding is not required.
As is the case with all stony corals, attention needs to be paid to maintaining proper Calcium and Alkalinity levels in the reef tank as noted on the right for proper skeletal development.

||We want you to be happy with the coral that you receive and we take pride in the corals that we offer. To provide true representation of the color and health for our WYSIWYG corals, they are photographed and white balanced under the ReefCorner LED lighting at approximately a 10K to 14K white point to best show the actual color of the coral. The coloration may vary when viewed under different lighting. The grid the coral is typically photographed on is approximately 0.6" per square to give you a size reference.
||We identify the scientific name when we are able to with some degree of accuracy. You will notice that we don’t give our corals cool names like “AWESOME ULTRA SUPER METALLIC NEON RED AND SCREAMING LIME GREEN ULTRA ULTRA COLORED AUSSIE” unless it is a name in common usage in the hobby that helps to identify the coral. We let our pictures do the talking and you can be the judge of whether our corals are awesome or not.
