Goniopora sp – Long Polyp Green Colony – WYSIWYG 1

SKU: Goniopora sp - Long Polyp Green Colony - WYSIWYG 1. Categories: , .
This is a  colony of long tentacle Goniopora.   Base color is green with reddish brown highlights on the tentacles.
This colony was budded off a large colony here at RC about 18 months ago.  It was attached to a reef plug and grown out to where it is about 6″ across when tentacles are expanded.  Skeleton is about 1.5″.   Green Goniopora can be difficult to keep long-term but this one is proven aquarium hardy.  Baby pic included.
The long tentacles wave beautifully in the water currents.

Goniopora come in different shapes and colors. Some have round skeletons and others are branching or encrusting. Polyp length can be extremely short and barely noticeable to extremely long at over 6″. Colors are commonly shades of green, red, purple or brown.

Long-term success with Goniopora can be difficult, though some hobbyists have maintained colonies in good health for many years. While they are primarily photosynthetic, supplemental nutrition provided in the form of very small filter feeder type foods may be important to their long-term success. At RC, we feed our Goniopora twice a week with Reef-Roids, Reef Chili, Oyster eggs and similar type foods.

In general the Red and Purple colored Goniopora tend to be the most hardy.

As with all stony corals, attention must be paid to maintaining proper calcium and alkalinity levels as shown on the right.

Photo Notes We want you to be happy with the coral that you receive and we take pride in the corals that we offer.  To provide true representation of the color and health for our WYSIWYG corals, they are photographed and white balanced under the ReefCorner LED lighting at approximately a 10K to 14K white point to best show the actual color of the coral. The coloration may vary when viewed under different lighting.  The grid the coral is typically photographed on is approximately 0.6" per square to give you a size reference.
Naming Notes We identify the scientific name when we are able to with some degree of accuracy. You will notice that we don’t give our corals cool names like “AWESOME ULTRA SUPER METALLIC NEON RED AND SCREAMING LIME GREEN ULTRA ULTRA COLORED AUSSIE” unless it is a name in common usage in the hobby that helps to identify the coral. We let our pictures do the talking and you can be the judge of whether our corals are awesome or not.
