Acropora latistella – UC Bali Shortcake Frag – WYSIWYG 1

SKU: Acropora latistella - UC Bali Shortcake Frag - WYSIWYG 1. Categories: , .
This is an XL frag of A. latisella in a color variant referred to as ‘UC Bali Shortcake’.  Base color is currently shades of rose with some yellow showing on corallites and a little blue on the branch tips.
This frag came in looking pretty sad and was dead on the bottom.  It was set aside and has started to really bloom.  See picture of a grown out colony for possible coloration under optimum conditions.
Prefers lower water flow and not too intense of lighting for best colors.  Growth form is clump or may form horizontal plates.

OVERVIEW

Acropora corals are some of the more difficult corals to maintain in the reef tank, but most will do well if certain conditions are meet as noted below.

Most require strong lighting which can be achieved with higher powered LED, Metal Halide or even T5 systems if placed near the top of the tank.

Water flow must be fairly strong to very strong depending on the species.

As with all stony corals; calcium, alkalinity and magnesium levels should be monitored and maintained at proper levels for the long-term health of this specimen. In addition, nitrates and phosphates should be kept low to optimize coloration of the coral.

Acropora corals generally do best in tanks that house primarily SPS and LPS corals. They do not do well with toxins that can be released by many soft corals, therefore the number of soft corals kept in SPS tanks should be kept fairly low.

Acropora corals can subsist on adequate lighting, water motion and good water chemistry alone if they are housed in a tank with a fair number of well fed fish, but they can also benefit from occasional feedings of small zooplankton foods. At RC, we do 2-3 weekly feedings consisting of a mix of oyster eggs, powered reef foods such as Reef-Roids and Reef Chili as well as small frozen foods such as Cyclopeeze and reef plankton

Photo Notes We want you to be happy with the coral that you receive and we take pride in the corals that we offer.  To provide true representation of the color and health for our WYSIWYG corals, they are photographed and white balanced under the ReefCorner LED lighting at approximately a 10K to 14K white point to best show the actual color of the coral. The coloration may vary when viewed under different lighting.  The grid the coral is typically photographed on is approximately 0.6" per square to give you a size reference.
Naming Notes We identify the scientific name when we are able to with some degree of accuracy. You will notice that we don’t give our corals cool names like “AWESOME ULTRA SUPER METALLIC NEON RED AND SCREAMING LIME GREEN ULTRA ULTRA COLORED AUSSIE” unless it is a name in common usage in the hobby that helps to identify the coral. We let our pictures do the talking and you can be the judge of whether our corals are awesome or not.
